The Lokmanya Marathon 2025, organized by Lokmanya Society, took place in Belagavi on Sunday with immense enthusiasm and participation from thousands. The event aimed to promote health awareness, foster unity, and encourage fitness among all age groups.

A Day to Remember 

The marathon commenced at 6:00 AM with an energizing warm-up session, setting the tone for an exciting day ahead. Over 3,000 participants, ranging from young children to seniors, gathered to take part in this significant event. Athletes from across India and international participants showcased their zeal, making the event a truly inclusive and global celebration.

Flagging Off the Event 

The event was flagged off at 6:30 AM by tennis icon Sania Mirza, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. She was accompanied by dignitaries like Dr. Kiran Thakur, Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, MLA Shashikala Jolle, Malgonda Patil, and Lokmanya Society board members. Sania Mirza expressed her delight at the warm reception she received in Belagavi, stating, “The love and respect I have received here are overwhelming. I promise to visit Belagavi again and spend more time with the people here.”

Multiple Categories for All   

Participants competed in three categories: 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km runs. Each category saw enthusiastic runners who exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and determination. The event encouraged participation from diverse groups, including professional athletes, local residents, and even first-time marathoners.

Lokmanya Society’s Vision    

Dr. Kiran Thakur, the founder president of Lokmanya Society, highlighted the organization’s vision for the marathon. He emphasized the importance of promoting health and fitness as part of their broader mission to uplift communities through initiatives in education, skill training, and rural development. He proudly noted that this was the first-ever marathon organized in Belagavi.

The entire event was broadcast live on the Tarun Bharat social media team’s YouTube channel, reaching a global audience and showcasing Belagavi’s vibrant spirit. The marathon also reflected Lokmanya Society’s 29 years of dedicated service and their ongoing efforts through the Lok Kalp Foundation to improve rural livelihoods.
